Mother’s Cottage

In Northern Ireland my Father knew Seamus Heaney – only through his poems mind you. 

He used to sit by the fire and every now and then he would take out his pipe and say to her, “listen to Seamus,  ‘anyone with gumption and a sharp mind will take the measure of two things: what's said and what's done’ “.

My Mother would reply “Aye”
